The UNICEF-supported initiative in Afghanistan aims to strengthen healthcare waste management systems across key provincial medical and immunization facilities. This project focuses on ensuring that waste generated from immunization activities ― such as used syringes, vaccine vials, safety boxes, and contaminated packaging ― is safely treated, incinerated, and disposed of following international environmental and health standards.

The program’s implementation covers five designated regional sites:

  • Kandahar REMT premises

  • Nangarhar REMT premises (Jalalabad)

  • Balkh REMT premises (Mazar)

  • Herat REMT premises

  • Paktya REMT premises

The HICLOVER TS50 is a diesel-fired, dual-chamber medical waste incinerator designed for hospital and immunization program waste. It supports both stationary installation and containerized deployment, making it ideal for field operations and health facilities across remote or developing regions.

Core Specifications:

  • Primary Chamber Capacity: ~0.56 m3

  • Burn Rate:  50kg/hour

  • Combustion Temperature: 850C1100°C

  • Secondary Chamber Retention Time: ≥ 2 seconds

  • Fuel Type: Diesel or LPG (optional)

  • Control System: PLC-based automation with temperature monitoring and safety interlocks

  • Chimney Height: 6C8 meters, stainless steel or mild steel

  • Optional: Wet scrubber or quench tower for flue gas cooling and neutralization

This design ensures the complete combustion of medical waste, effectively reducing emissions of harmful particulates and pathogens.

Each installed incinerator unit is intended to:

  • Treat approximately 400 safety boxes and 1,000 vaccine vials per day

  • Prevent open burning and other unsafe disposal practices

  • Support sustainable immunization programs under Afghanistan’s National Expanded Program for Immunization (NEPI)
